Background

Endemic to the remote island of Vanikoro in the Solomon Islands the Vanikoro White-eye was only described as a distinct species in 2008. Very few birders visit Vanikoro and one of the only birding groups to visit the island in the past decade only managed a brief view of a single Vanikoro White-eye when they were on traveled to the island in 2017.
