Background

Minahasa Shortwing is found only in mountain forests on the Minahasa Peninsula in northern Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is closely related to Great Shortwing and is considered a subspecies of Great Shortwing in the eBird taxonomy. Minahasa Shortwing is one of a small handful of bird species that, as of 2026, has never been photographed.

The last documented record of Minahasa Shortwing appears to be a sound recording made by Pam Rasmussen in July 2015.
