Guadalcanaria inexpectata

FAMILY

Ducks, Geese, and Waterfowl (Anatidae)

LAST DOCUMENTED

2016

(10 years)

REGION

Oceania

IUCN STATUS

Least Concern

Background

Guadalcanal Honeyeater is found only in the rugged mountainous interior of Guadalcanal Island in the Solomon Islands. The honeyeater's highland habitat is difficult to access and only a small number of birders and scientific researchers have visited the areas where the honeyeater occurs. Though there were sightings of Guadalcanal Honeyeater in 2025 the last documented records appear to be sound recordings made in 2015. Another lost bird, Guadalcanal Thicketbird, occurs in the same habitat as the honeyeater.

Last Documented

The last documented record of Guadalcanal Honeyeater appears to be sound recordings made by Frank Lambert on Chupukama Ridge in 2015.
