Manipur Bush-Quail

This grassland specialist has been confirmed from two separate regions in northeastern India. The only documented records are a series of specimens from the late 1800s and early 1900s, although an ornithologist reported seeing one briefly in 2006. Coveys of this quail inhabit dense stands of very tall grasses, but much of this habitat has been destroyed or diminished.

The last specimens were collected in 1907 from the Mornai tea estate in northeastern India (e.g., December 1907; BirdLife International 2001).
