Search for Lost Birds / 3 Jun 2025
Are you a young birder interested in leading an expedition to look for one of the species on the Lost Birds list? Check out the new Ornis Birding x Lost Birds Expeditions Grants for 2026!
The Search for Lost Birds is partnering with Ornis Birding Expeditions to offer grants of up to $5,000 for birders aged 18-30 to do a project to search for one of the species on the Lost Birds list in 2026.
Ornis Birding Expeditions was founded by a team of young birders passionate about leading tours to look for birds that are seldom-seen and hard-to-find. This commitment to visiting areas beyond the usual birding routes has led to the Ornis team rediscovering multiple Lost Birds including species such as Mussau Triller and Bougainville Thicketbird. By partnering with the Search for Lost Birds, Ornis wants to inspire and support the next generation of birding leaders while helping the Search for Lost Birds achieve its conservation goals.
Proposed searches should plan to take place in 2026. Applications are open until December 20, 2025, with successful applicants being announced in January 2026.
